DYNO RESULTS: intercooler performance

| In this dyno graph, a pair of runs
from 1st through 4th gear are illustrated with the stock
intercooler and piping. A strong fan blast was
provided to the intercooler in both tests. Note
that the power falls off noticeably in the 2nd run,
which was performed back-to-back with the first.
Heat soak in the stock intercooler significantly
affected power on Run 2, starting midway through 2nd
gear...with a total loss of over 40 HP at the top of 3rd
gear! The scan data below helps show why this
terrible power loss was so evident... |

scan graph) This data graph
shows engine information during the dyno run.
Study the IAT (intake air temp) data in the fourth
section down. Note that where the vertical white
cursor is placed, that the numbers for IAT (as shown in
the left column) are significantly different for IAT
(which is incoming air temperature) and IAT2 (which is
the temperature after the intercooler, same was what's
being delivered to the engine). You can see IAT2
elevate throughout the dyno run, reaching an ultimate
total of 154 degrees...over 70 more degrees than
IAT incoming air temperature! Savvy observers will
also note that the ignition timing is down to 6 degrees
at this point, since the PCM is retarding timing to
compensate for the high inlet air temperature (IAT2). |
|

| Now, for these dynoruns, the Hahn
RaceCraft Performance Intercooler and piping were
installed. You can immediately see that there is
no difference in power on these two back-to-back runs,
quite unlike the stock equipment. The scan data
below shows why... |

It's immediately evident that the IAT
data is now much more favorable with the Hahn
Performance Intercooler. Note how, unlike the
stock intercooler, the two IAT lines now track much
closer to each other during the test; instead of a
disturbing 60+ degree increase in air temperature like
stock, we see a mere 8 degrees. Ignition timing is
a more effective 9 degrees. This is a much happier
(and loner-lived!) engine now! |
|

| And finally, here's where we see the
difference between the Hahn Performance Intercooler and
stock, after two dynoruns each...as much as 60 more
horsepower, with an average of 20-30 HP increase.
This translates to a difference you will feel, and a
reduction in temperature your engine will thank you for.
And, a bonus...as this intercooler can
support up to 700 HP without breathing hard, you will
also be well-prepared for any future performance
modifications you make. More airflow from more
power that would just further tax the stock intercooler!
