Spring 1999:
This car now sports an Hahn RaceCraft Stage II Turbosystem,
bolted to his stock engine and drivetrain. Some careful
lightening has the total vehicle weight down to 2350 pounds,
yet the car still sports air conditioning! First time
out, the car runs low 13's at 104 MPH on slicks. It is
decided that dozens of dragstrip runs and 40,000 miles have
brought the stock clutch to the end of its capability, so Hahn
RaceCraft installs a heavier duty version.

Late
Spring, 1999: With his new clutch, HRC runs a
stunning 13.00 second, 106 MPH pass at ten pounds of
boost with 93 octane pump gas. Just a tick away
from the twelve's on a stock engine! One day, we
get to the track and discover that we have forgotten
the lug nuts for the slicks, so we race it on the
street tires. 13.40's at 106 MPH are the result,
on 17" wheels and tires! During this
period, The HRC Neon has the following equipment:
HAHN
Stage II Turbosystem
M&H
Slicks on Keizer wheels for drag strip
Dynomax exhaust:
opened up at drag strip
Koni struts
Eibach springs
HAHN Heavy duty
hybrid clutch
Total weight: 2350
pounds |

Summer, 1999: The Record
Falls! Hahn RaceCraft perform the conversion to
Stage IV, and the car impresses first time out: At Neon 99, Our
neon blasts a 12.41 @ 116 MPH in 95% humidity, 90 plus degree
conditions! But we ain't done yet, and the next time out a
12.16 @ 117 MPH is the result. The neon is now developing well
over 350 HP, and quite a bit more is surely in store! Bill Hahn Jr. will continue to evaluate this exciting
combination while working towards its maximum power level.
We expect to break the eleven-second barrier very soon! Stay
tuned for updates as they occur. The neon now sports:
1. All the
mods shown above for Late Spring, 1999
2. ACCEL coils
and spark plug wires
3. GReddy
Profec B boost controller with optional steering wheel mounted
remote control
4. MSD DIS-4
ignition
5. Quaife
limited-slip differential
6. Hahn Stage
IV conversion:
HAHN forged pistons
HAHN connecting rods
(Remainder of engine and
drivetrain still stone stock, NO EXCEPTIONS!)
HAHN higher boost wastegate
actuator
HAHN Stage IV fuel
system mods
Total weight: 2300
pounds (HRC has now removed AC compressor, lines and condenser)
Early August: In
only the third time out with the HAHN Stage IV Turbosystem, HRC cracks the eleven second zone!
HRC drove the Neon to Route
66 Dragway in Joliet, IL. After bolting on slicks,
they blasted an 11.89 @ 118 MPH! The obligatory backup run came
next with an 11.95 @ 118. Satisfied with being the first
ever eleven second Neon, We bolt on the street tires, hooks up the
muffler and head home.
Late August:
Hahn Racecraft makes the first final round appearance with the Turbo Neon at
the Street Legal Import Magazine event at Byron Dragway, Byron IL
(a 160 mile round trip for the street driven World's Quickest
Neon). The win eludes us, but not before we increase our
speed record to 119 MPH! Another great showing, with a bunch
more astounded observers going away mumbling about eleven second
Neons.
September 99: HRC again
raises the standard at the IDRA Battle of the Imports, Route 66
Raceway, Joliet, IL. Dropping Nearly 2 tenths off his ET,
HRC bangs out an 11.70 @ 119 MPH pass. The weekend included
many such high eleven second passes!
UPDATE: HRC's Y2K Setup
Revealed!
Hahn RaceCraft have some
new surprises in store for the 2000 race season. This car
will act as the prototype for our Stage V Neon Turbosystem.
With a 20G turbo and large front mount intercooler, This neon will
now enjoy the same power level as we have achieved with this
exceptional 420A engine in our 500 HP RS Eclipse. Expect a
couple more tricks to also show up on the car this year. The
car will remain completely street legal, and will not become a
"gutted" lightweight drag-only car. More
information will be posted to this website as it develops!
